Swine Flu Scammers
It has come to the attention of Nationwide Relocation Services, that there are scam emails and websites that are taking advantage of the swine flu pandemic, and consumers are experiencing increasing anxiety as a direct result of it. Many people are moving to secluded locations in an attempt to distance themselves from the swine flu contingency. If this includes you, and you need information on moving locally or long distance, give us a call at Nationwide Relocation Services.
BBB President, Tom Bartholomy, believes these scammers are successful because they keep up to date with current events and use them as headlines to catch the attention of readers. The Better Business Bureau reports that an online security company by the name of McAfee Avert Labs detected that spammers were sending out emails as soon as the first cases of swine flu (H1N1) were reported on the news. These emails and websites are marketing medicines, survival kits, and other questionable products that aren’t proven, tested, or authorized.
In order to protect consumers against swine flu scams, the Better Business Bureau advises to:
- Refrain from purchasing products being sold that fraudulently claim to protect you from or cure you of swine flu.
- Avoid opening flu related emails, clicking on links and/or attachments that can potentially infect your computer with spyware viruses.
- Make sure that your anti-virus software is up to date to protect against swine flu spammers and scammers.
